If you have a guestroom with a hide-a-bed or a futon, you'll find that round tables make a nice nightstand there too. Best of all, it can be quickly repositioned to be used as a computer stand, game table or to eat dinner on. Most accent tables are fairly light, allowing them to be easily moved around the home.
Style and Shape. The two most important features of an accent table are the style and shape. Falling in love with a beautiful contemporary accent table does you no good if the rest of the furniture in your house is in a classical style. Just think about the style of the other furnishings in your home and try to find an accent table that falls in line with them.
Every room has one. That space in your home that just seems empty. Yet, many pieces of furniture are simply too large or bulky to fit the space available. So, you end up doing without, rather than putting in something that is too large or would end up looking out of place.
For a more rustic look in the yard, nothing beats those made of Northern White Cedar. Over time, the table will weather beautifully, taking on a silvery appearance. Red cedar offers a cleaner, less rustic look. It too will age nicely and the red cedar can take whatever winter throws at it since it is impervious to the elements as well as bugs.
Round accent tables also work well on their own. You can use them in your living room, great room or home office to provide additional space to display photos, knickknacks and keepsakes. They are also wonderful for plants, bringing a little of the outdoors into your home.
Accent tables as end tables are really popular these days, largely because you can mix and match them, but also because they allow you to show off a bit of your personality, choosing pieces that not only fit the space well, but reflect your style and personal tastes.
Don't have the budget to buy accent tables right now? You can make your own in a pinch. For example, you can stack a few leather suitcases on top of one another make an accent table. Another option is to put a glass tabletop over a large clay flowerpot. Or if you have an old wood or metal stool that needs some work on top just take a piece of cloth and cover the stool with it, turning it into an instant accent table.
