D/L’ing and/or paying for task managers? Why?

Stop!

Don’t download another task manager, and for all things holy don’t pay for one until you try this little trick.

Android (1.5 and up, at least) HAS a task manager built in. Don’t believe me? From the home screen hit the menu button and go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and after the list of installed applications loads, hit the menu button. When the menu screen pops-up select “Filter” and then select ”Running.” You can also filter by all and third-party as well.

Wal-ah free, built in task manager. Want to close a program? Select it from the list and when the details come up scroll down and select the “Force Close” or “Force Stop” button.

Granted it’s a little cumbersome to get into, seeing as it takes at least 5 steps to close an app, but it is an alternative to loading another app on the phone. And, in reality, unless you are a power user this task manager should work fine.

The more you know.

If you want to make it even easier and you don’t mind downloading just one more (free!) app, get “Any Cut”. Fire it up and select “Activities”, then select “Manage Applications”. Viola, this creates a shortcut to Android’s own task manager, with its own icon, on your home screen!
The filter trick remains necessary, but now the number of actions required to close an app drops quite a lot.
“Any Cut” is quite an interesting little app anyway, it can make shortcuts to stuff that’s not even on the (Android’s) menu!

Thanks I’ve been using the in-built task manager but it’s so cumbersome to get to, and now with Anycut, it’s so much easier!
